Afsud 2007

South Africa 2007 : The land of Bafana

J-1

Finally, the last suitcase is packed! It was not an easy task, because it was necessary to select carefully the clothes... That we will abandon on the spot! No question of risking the excess of luggage, and considering the desire to bring back so many things from Africa, we will have to let go of some ballast along the way.
Now we just have time to be driven to Zaventem to take our Swissair flight to Jo' bourg, via Zurich.  This year, contrary to the usual, it will be June rather than September-October. We'll see what the weather has in store for us for our 4th stay in the land of the Bafanas.
Already a first adventure in itself: the safari among the Brussels inhabitants coming back from work! The hour of the flight making us start in full rush hour, there is going to be sport... It is so blocked that we resolve to play it with the snatch: go hop, the plan of the streets of the capital on the knees, and the rally begins in order to avoid the congested axes. Great idea, we revisit the countryside of the Brussels periphery, but we progress to reach the airport in time; Phew!... But on the verge of starting the journey with a catastrophe.

Passed the traditional check-in which does not pose any problem, our first flight brings us to Zurich, where awaits us our Long Mail.  This airport is a real delight: perfectly organized, impeccably clean, and disconcertingly easy to use. The transfer from one terminal to the other is done via an underground, automated subway... that's a change from the long runs to the connection in the corridors of Heathrow!  The traditional wait before boarding will be anything but monotonous for once. Indeed, the South African U16 soccer team present in the terminal will distract us with its songs and dances during long minutes. Atmosphere... Not yet left and already Africa is there. How good it is....

Another good little surprise for the flight: we are placed at the emergency door. What a pleasure to have room to stretch out our legs; this trip starts well. Magazines, the itinerary of the trip (concocted by us well in advance), the Ipod: all the weapons are sharpened to pass the time, because I often have trouble finding sleep in the planes. An excellent meal, a small coffee push, and a good movie later, I feel that the privileged position of our seats will finally serve me well...

Already the first glimmers of a new day appear at the window... The sun rises on the ochre continent, Zimbabwe is already taking shape under our wings: the adventure is about to begin!
